Friday 21st February

Workshop 1 - Negracha, Open-Level

Theme: Understanding the vals contratiempo

We often dance contratiempos in a tango vals intuitively, but it is always a good idea to try and understand the musical theory behind it and to be able then to apply it more deliberately. We will look both into "1-2" and "3-1" contratiempo. Don't know what this means? Then this workshop is for you!

Level: Open Level
Time: 7.30pm to 9pm
Address: 10 Herbal Hill, EC1R 5EG

Saturday 22nd February

Masterclass

Theme: Connecting to the floor, grounding and communicating from the center

We often talk about floor and grounding in tango, but what does it really mean? In this workshop we will explore the notion of grounding both in terms of legwork and the connection in the embrace. We will also work on what I call "magical lead": the lead that is given and received from and into the center, which makes the communication between partners way more powerful and effective. We will apply this notion both to simple moves as well as sophisticated vocabulary such as starting and stopping a turn.

Level: Open Level
Time: 1pm to 4pm
Address: 24-27 White Lion St, N1 9PD

Workshop 2 - Advanced

Theme: Playing with alterations

Alterations are ways in which we can change the nature of a movement while the movement is happening, and is a wonderful way of enriching your vocabulary without learning more and more new steps. Also, alterations are quite hard to lead and follow as they often imply completely unexpected changes of direction. In this workshop we will work on some simple alteration ideas and then get creative together!

Level: Advanced
Time: 6pm to 7.30pm
Address: 24-27 White Lion St, N1 9PD

Sunday 23rd February

Workshop 3 - Intermediate

Theme: Paradas, pauses and suspensions

Tango is a very dynamic dance, but this doesn't mean we cannot slow down, pause and suspend our movement to create more contrasting energies. In this workshop we will look at different kinds of pauses and how to apply them to tango vocabulary such as paradas.

Level: Intermediate
Time: 6pm to 7.30pm
Address: 24-27 White Lion St, N1 9PD
